Two of the main reasons I enjoy working for Smile Education is being able to give back to our schools and being able to support some fantastic charities. For one of my schools, who are enrolled in the Smile Rewards Club, I was able to contribute to them buying a defibrillator to keep in school reception in conjunction with the Oliver King Foundation.

Countless members of people, including children, die every year from sudden cardiac arrest. Many of these lives would have been saved if first responders had access to a defibrillator. The one we have contributed to will be available to use for all pupils, staff and visitors to school on the event of cardiac emergency.

The Oliver King Foundation was set up in 2012, following the tragic death of 12 year old Oliver King, who died from Sudden Arrhythmic Death Syndrome, a hidden heart condition which kills 12 young people every week. They provide training in defibrillator awareness and in emergency first aid. To date they have placed nearly 2000 defibrillators in schools and organisations across the UK.
